OFFICE MANAGER

Coast History & Heritage is a Sydney-based consultancy specialising in Aboriginal history research and interpretation, and Aboriginal and European cultural heritage management. Our office also includes a small gallery which features Aboriginal history exhibitions. We require an experienced office manager to ensure that our office and gallery is run smoothly, and to coordinate our team of consultants.

 

Aboriginal people and others with experience in working respectfully with Aboriginal communities are encouraged to apply.

Tasks & Responsibilities

  • Administration of our team of historians and archaeologists including:

    • Coordinating team workloads to achieve project deadlines.

    • Coordinating and scheduling Coast staff meetings and appointments.

    • Responding to phone and email enquiries.

    • Liaising with clients and Aboriginal people (individuals and organisations) as required for projects.

    • Assisting with accounting and budgeting.

    • Printing, copying, postage and archiving as required for projects and business needs.

    • Participating in regular team meetings.

    • Enhancing and promoting the image and reputation of Coast within the profession, amongst our clients and throughout the community at large.

  • Management of our office including:

    • Ordering office supplies.

    • Managing day to day IT needs in conjunction with our external IT specialists.

    • Coordinating office cleaning and repairs.

    • Improving and developing office management systems and policy development for the business.

    • Complying with relevant work practices, statutory requirements and quality standards as set by Coast.

  • Assisting with management of our small Aboriginal history gallery including:

    • Coordinating enquiries/applications from Aboriginal community organisations and school groups.

    • Assisting with the set-up and pack down of rotating exhibitions and exhibition openings.

    • Compiling public and participant feedback for discussion for Coast.

 

Skills & Experience

  • Demonstrated extensive office management experience (at least 5 years in similar role).

  • Excellent organisational and time management skills, including the ability to work to deadlines and targets, and prioritising tasks under pressure.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, e.g. tact, sensitivity and an ability to listen, but also to be assertive but respectful at times when needed.

  • Demonstrated experience in working with Aboriginal communities desirable.

  • Advanced skills with Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel) and email (Outlook) required.

  • Ability to work in a small, focussed team.

  • Ability to be discreet and maintain high levels of confidentiality.

  • Formal business studies or information technology qualifications preferable.

  • Proficiency with Xero accounting software desirable.

 

Salary and Conditions

Salary $70,000 - $80,000 pro rata plus super. The position is part-time (4 days per week equivalent with flexible hours) but full time arrangements may be considered. ARCHAEOLOGIST/CONSULTANT

Coast History & Heritage (‘Coast’) is a Sydney-based consultancy specialising in Aboriginal cultural heritage and historical archaeology and Aboriginal history research and interpretation. We work thoroughly and ethically to go beyond simple compliance, and also seek to promote heritage and history to broader audiences. Our range of services involves the delivery of Aboriginal and historical archaeological heritage consulting services to private and public sector clients, including advice, assessment, excavation and strategic planning.

We are looking for a passionate archaeologist with some Aboriginal archaeological excavation and consulting experience under their belt, to join our team.

Tasks & Responsibilities

  • Assist in the research and delivery of archaeological assessments and reporting, including background research, field assessment, analysis, mapping and report writing.

  • Assist with archaeological test and salvage excavations, including excavation, sieving, recording and finds cataloguing.

  • Assist with Aboriginal community consultation for various projects.

  • Assist with preparation of materials for project clients, including for client meetings.

  • Complete administration required for various projects.

  • Commit to the delivery of various projects and assigned tasks.

  • Assist with general business archiving.

  • Achieve project and task deadlines.

  • Report task progress and issues regularly.

  • Work productively with other Coast employees, Aboriginal community members and Coast associates to complete projects in a timely and professional manner.

  • Compliance with relevant work practices, statutory requirements and quality standards as set by Coast.

  • Enhance and promote the image and reputation of Coast within the profession, amongst our clients and throughout the community at large.

  • Contribute ideas, suggestions and energy to the ongoing development of Coast.

 

Essential Skills and Experience 

  • Archaeology Honours degree or equivalent.

  • At least one year’s experience with Aboriginal heritage assessments as well as excavation.

  • Willingness to deliver quality work with attention to detail, and be involved in activities beyond strict compliance heritage.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel).

  • Construction industry ‘white card’.

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Specialist analysis expertise (e.g. stone artefact analysis, faunal analysis).

  • GIS mapping skills.

  • NSW driver’s licence.

 

Salary and Conditions

 

Salary commensurate with experience. The position is full-time and based at our new office and gallery space (15/112 McEvoy Street, Alexandria), with most projects located in the Sydney region and surrounds. Some flexible work arrangements can be considered.

Our new gallery space provides added scope for Coast to build on our focus to promote Aboriginal history and heritage to the public and we would welcome candidates with enthusiasm to help with this important work.
